Good Feeling by Flo Rida

Flo Rida

Her stage name is a derivative of her unique birth name Jamesetta; his name is a derivative of the State he MC’s in – Florida.  She is the only (part) African-American soul singer from the 1960s who wore her hair in blond.  And he is the guy who’s brought her back on radio in 2011.

The unforgettable deep Contraltosinging voice of the feisty Etta James is booming on the radio again, thanks to Flo Rida.  The guy who spunright-round Kesha’s vocals and up the radio charts in his last hit, now samples Etta James on his new dance single Good Feeling.  Flo Rida samples James’ first versefrom her 1962 gospel-inspired single, Something’s Got a Hold on me.  The sample showcases James’ inimitable style of combining smooth jazz-perfect vocals with rock and roll edginess.

The song begins with the slightly pitched-up Etta James sample on a synth-heavy dance song, before Flo Rida breaks out in rap about the success of his musical career.  That success includes the upcoming release of his fourth solo LP entitled Only One Rida (Part II), and the possibility that Good Feeling will follow his previous club favorites like 2007’s Low and 2009’s Round-Round to number 1.

On featuring Etta James on his track, Flo said, ‘It's legendary, we got Etta James featured on there…You know, it just gotta be a blessing from God to make that happen," Flo Rida said. "We got that cleared and I'm very excited."

Flo Rida is the second hip hop artist to feature a soul legend from back in the day on a single this year, following in the tracks of Jay-Z and Kanye West who recently tore apart their Maybach to the sound of Otis Redding on their hit Otis.
