Selena Gomez

Taken off the band’s third album, When The Sun Goes Down, the single Love You Like A Love Song, has made Selena Gomez and The Scene a club favorite.  The song is a stark contrast to its predecessor from the same album, the teen pop anthem, Who Says.

On Love You Like A Love Song, Gomez’s vocals sound more mature than the innocent pop-candy treat on Who Says and makes her seem like more than a teenage idol.  The song is another dance hit like the hotly anticipated Hit the Lights and the song’s lead single, Naturally.

Gomez, who seems to have more shelf-life than Disney teen-pop counterparts like Miley Cyrus and is respected by media for the control she has over her fame, formed the band in 2009 and has released three albums over the three years.  On the videoclip to the song, Gomez starts off karaoking in Japan, sporting blue-gray lipstick sometimes and is then seen draping herself and hoola-hooping for a sitar-playing tall blond and then playing under a fig tree in the midst of purple barley fields with a sombrero-sporting Mexican entourage, and a Pinata.

The song is on repeat-repeat-repeat on radio this year, which is a good thing for Gomez fans since there is unlikely to be any new installments of music in 2012 from the starlet and her band.  The Monte Carlo startlet, who also left the Disney show, Wizards of Waverly Place, told E News that she is also leaving music for a little while, “We’re going to take a break from music…my band and I are going to chill on that for a second…I’m doing two films, which I’m excited about…/they’re both different and things I’ve never played before, so that’ll be fun for me.”

That means fans get to watch more of Selena than hear her – watch her on her upcoming films, the dark, gritty Springbreakers, or the comedy Hot Mess, or on the paparazzi-footage of the beaches of Hawaii starring Gomez and her power-pop boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

The song is currently at number 13 on Ryan Seacrest’s AT 40, which you can catch every Saturday at 10 AM on 101.7 TNL Rocks!
