David Schmidt and Kyle Evan have been threatening to stay awake to all kinds of charts, including Ryan Seacrest’s AT 40 for months. ‘I’m only getting started and I won’t blackout’ are the most heard lyrics from Breathe Carolina on radio these days.
The band was formed in 2007 and is named after a dream David had in the ninth grade about calming a woman named Caroline. The band have since their inception covered all the bases of fame – from having their music on MySpace, to getting on to talk shows, to releasing albums, to touring, to launching a clothes line, to recording a Christmas album, to getting signed with major labels like Columbia Records.
Blackout, taken off the album Hell Is What You Make Of It, was originally released in late 2010. Or at least 40 seconds of the song. The teaser was meant to promote the upcoming album, which was completed only in mid-last year. The song was officially released in the summer on MTV Buzzworthy and as a digital download before making it to the Jimmy Kimmel show in a few days.
The electronica pop band began collaborating by recording on the software Garageband and releasing their music on MySpace. And then, like most artists get discovered these days, the thousands of plays of their music online got them noticed by Rise Records, followed by Fearless Records, before they were finally signed on to Columbia Records last year.
