Cage the Elephant

Cage the ElephantThere’s been a certain rhythm-and-blues anthem pounding out of cars in your traffic jams and sending drivers into head-tossing yelps of sing-along moments.  Those are the cars that are tuned on to TNL and those are the drivers that can’t resist the urge to sing along to the hottest single from Cage the Elephant.

Formerly known as Perfect Confusion, this is a garage-punk band that has been credited to have released some of the most powerfully ravaging rock of recent times.BBC in a recent review said the band has the ‘exuberance of The Vines, the social relevance of Hard Fi and the slide guitar of Beck.  Lead singer Matt Schultz said that band is like a ‘punch in the face’, but when we listen, we just feel like punching the air in sheer joy for the return of rock and roll without the over-produced glitz and well yes as you would’ve noticed, those drivers we told you about, just feel like punching the steering wheel, in sheer rock grit.

Their name is about as succinct a tribute to Indian Philosophy as Kula Shaker, In one interview they explained it comes from Indian philosophy where the elephant is the symbol of strength and goodness. ''It seems like people want to cage the elephant'', they said, ''it seems like they want to cage all the good in the world''

They may strut with Iggy Pop funk , but their influences were typical of a Kentucky radio station in a pious dad’s household… we guess – everything from Bob Dylan to Jay-Z to Kenny G is listed on their MySpace webpage as having pieced together the music-making antics of this band.

TNL currently plays their hot new single, ‘Aint No Rest For the Wicked’, which was the second release from the band’s self-titled debut album and reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart.
