Sometimes the radio gaga can make the star - it is a lot radio that got this band the fame it undoubtedly deserves. Their debut release New Low, was first played on a Sacramento Alternative Rock Station when the band gave the single to radio jock and music director, Andy Hawk. And then DJ Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 played Busy Being Born as his Single of the Week, which was followed by the band doing their first tour of London. Lowe also featured on his show as the Hottest Record in the World, the song I Guess You Could Say by the band.
And all this noise across the world and now on TNL, is because of just two guys. Zack Lopez, who drums as well as sings, and Sean Stockham who guitars as well as sings, together make up current TNL favorite band, Middle Class Rutt.
The duo formed the band in 2006 after the dissolution of the duos earlier band called Leisure. They released their music as MC Rut in 2008, with New Low, which was followed by current new music on TNL, Busy Being Born.
The band has been described by music magazines as combining the ‘boisterous swagger and pomp of Jane's Addiction and the feral fury of Rage Against the Machine’. There’s a 90s authenticity however, in the noise that this band’s version of alternative rock makes, an authenticity that the Emo and Indie Rock of the 2000s sold to the devil of commercialism. The vocals of Stockham and Lopez wail over a charge of guitar that threatens to break loose into riotous anarchy but always remains restrained and there are never any frenzied outbursts of pop punk energy.
After two EPs, each named according to its color (i.e. Red and Blue), the band released their debut album, No Name No Color late last year. The band recently performed alongside Weezer, Panic! at the Disco and Neon Trees.
